Problem fixed – Windows XP updates can be downloaded but not installed
After installing Windows XP SP2 on my IBM/Lenovo X60s and updating the OS with SP3, I have had the problem that Windows XP updates could be downloaded but not installed.
Fortunaley I found a fix for my problem at http://forums.cnet.com/5208-6142_102-0.html?forumID=5&threadID=276886&messageID=2660716:
I just had to re-register the Windows Update DLLs with the commands below.
Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
Type the following commands. Press ENTER after each command.
regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
